Irene: The aftermath

Charlestown Beach Road pleads for mercy from Irene.
Somebody's wish came true.

It could’ve been a lot worse. We didn’t get the massive flooding Vermont’s been experiencing. In fact, nary a shutter was blown off of any of the houses down on Charlestown Beach Road, perhaps thanks to the cheery greetings some folks left for Irene when they boarded up their windows.
Charlestown Beach Road greets Irene.

Though someone's patio table did end up in the beach parking lot. If you're missing a table, check down there. It's right where you cross the street as you're leaving the lot to head toward the beach.

The Pepto-Bismol House came through unscathed. Let's hope
it continues to guide boaters home for another 22 years!
Sure, a lot of sand got taken off the beach, but surprisingly little trash seems to have been left behind for the Coastal Cleanup on September 17.

The whole contour of the beach has changed.

Since I seem to be the only bureau of Progressive Charlestown with electricity, I thought I’d share a few snapshots with you all.

Hope you get your power back soon. At least the weather won’t slow National Grid’s work crews down; it’s supposed to be sunny through Sunday.
