National Grid forecast for powering up Charlestown

National Grid has a map on their website that allows you to see what they have in their database for outages by neighborhood.

It doesn't seem to be very exact, but it does paint a picture of where the power recovery effort stands.

There are clusters of outages all over South County.

The code for the purplish blotches (little lightbulbs with a "/" scratched through them) means "multiple outages."

The close-up map below focuses on Charlestown.

The map program on the National Grid website allows you to go in close and view the smallest sections they keep in the database. Plus you can get National Grid's projection for when power will be restored.

I checked most of the little lightbulbs on the map and it looks to me like they are predicting September 4 for power restoration for the rest of Charlestown.

Yes, that sucks and I know that's got to be disappointing. I have a theory that kept me somewhat optimistic (though not cheerful) while we waited: "under-promise but over-achieve."

The secret to success in politics, business, etc. is to promise less than you actually expect to be able to deliver. Tell'em Sunday and when you deliver on Friday, you're a hero. At least, that's my theory.

If you're still stuck in the house on Saturday, without power and going stir-crazy, don't forget to come out over to the Charlestown Democratic Town Committee's tag sale from 8 AM to 4 PM on 1A near Genwood Drive.
