Local Charity predicts a new world record will be set on June 6

World's Biggest "Human Pizza" Record to be Broken in Rhode Island

From 2012
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI: On June 6th, from 5 to 7 pm, at the 7th Annual Hunger Awareness Day event at Marina Park, South Kingstown, RI, the public is invited to set a new record for the World’s Biggest Human Pizza.

The record was set at last year’s Hunger Awareness Day when one hundred fifty two people showed up dressed in “pizza colors” to be documented in a photo by Bousquet& Son Aerial Photography.  Rain date is June 13th.

Spokesperson Steve Maciel stated: "We're building the World's Biggest Human Pizza a slice at a time. As we gain momentum, we'll ultimately build an entire pizza. We’ve issued a challenge for other hunger organizations to try and beat our record. Rhode Island has a long heritage with pizza. Grilled pizza was first introduced here and Travel & Leisure magazine recently voted Providence second best Pizza in America. And now, RI will be always be known as the home of the World's Biggest Human Pizza.

"We're also creating a connection between locally sourced products as pizza ingredients and toppings to tie it all together with the local food movement, improving our local economy, and the goal of creating food secure communities."

Hunger Awareness Day is coordinated by the Hunger Task Force, an initiative of the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. Over a dozen local pizzerias and ice cream stores are generously donating free pizza and ice cream and live music is provided by South County’s favorite rockers the Westmoreland Street Jammers. The event will include activities for children, informational booths, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) outreach and information.

This family-friendly event is free of charge. Attendees are asked to attend wearing “pizza colors” of red, white and brown and bring donations of non-perishable food to benefit the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale’s emergency food pantry.
