Steve Brown
The Profile in Change award

Steve Brown is the executive director of the Rhode Island affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, a post he has held for three decades.  During his tenure, the ACLU of Rhode Island has filed over 500 lawsuits covering a broad range of civil liberties & constitutional issues.   As a result, the Rhode Island courts have issued precedent-setting decisions in such areas as freedom of speech, separation of church and state, voting rights & non-discrimination  


Dr. Michelle Forcier
The Sister Carol McGovern Advocacy award
The Voice for the Voiceless

Dr. Forcier is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics & Assistant Dean of Admissions at the Brown University Alpert Medical School. Her professional background has focused on reproductive justice & sexual health issues including: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning youth with a focus on gender nonconforming youth, puberty blockers & hormones; contraception, advanced family planning & abortion services; pediatric & adolescent gynecology; & transition medicine for older youth with complex medical problems.



Richard Holcomb
The Susan Hamilton Welin award for Nonviolence

Richard Holcomb is an outreach specialist in the field of commercial sex work. He provides street outreach & HIV prevention counseling to this population in Providence. He is best known for his groundbreaking work in HIV prevention when he founded Project Weber, a program for male sex-workers in Rhode Island. The Project Weber outreach team he leads provides condom distribution, needle exchange, substance abuse referrals & HIV testing.
