South County Unitarians hold Harvest Fair on October 18

Where games have all winners and hot dogs are a natural

From Myron Waldman

The Lily Pads Professional Center is the site for a Harvest Fair on Saturday, October 18th, rain or shine. This free, lively family event from 10 to 3 PM is a gift to the community by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of South County to pass a message of having fun while caring for the environment and living in peace.

The fun begins at the parking lot. Experience free parking, huge pumpkins and harvest delights then turn your attention to the live music in the outdoor cafe. Lots of foods from fresh baked cookies to all natural hot dogs to fair trade coffee.

Turn the corner and the ‘white elephants’ appear. Here, you will find stuff you’ve either couldn’t afford or couldn’t find. Feel free to bargain for your treasure.

Look left for ponies, rabbits and other natural treasures that kids love. There will be pony rides and bunny petting all day. Look right and mingle with 20 or so vendors selling handcrafted items like jewelry, art, blown glass, sea glass, etched wood, locally designed scarves and handbags and more.

Just before you get to the huge kid’s section adults will find lots of used and new handyman tools and materials. Kids will enjoy face-painting, crafts, non-competitive creative games, giant Legos, giant chess and special Girl Scout events and creations.

If you happen to have a closet full of consumer electronics, old keyboards, monitors or an ancient computer, bring it along. We’ll have an electronics waste station where you can drive up and deposit it all at no charge.

Details are on our dedicated website: www.uuHarvestFair.com
