It's Truck Day and I'm Sad

It's Truck Day, one of the most important days of the year, and we have no joy in Rhode Island.

Rep. Doreen Costa (R-NO Kingtown) thinks I wasn't serious when I asked her to introduce a resolution memorializing this day, when all Red Sox fans begin to glow with anticipation of springtime. Today is the day that the trucks load up at Fenway to take the team's gear down to Florida for spring training.

See http://bostondirtdogs.boston.com/2011/02/how_we_roll_1.html

I asked Rep. Costa to do this because it's clear from her record that she is more interested in silliness than in real law-making (see earlier posts).

But either Rep. Costa or someone she knows read this blog and told her that, for reasons that escape me, she should question my motives.

She sent me this e-mail:

Hi Will..
Hope you are doing well.
Thanks for highlighting me on your blog.
I think it's great!
I did put the truck resolution in for you... NOT
I knew it was a joke and I do get back to everyone even if you don't agree with me.
Have a great day and God Bless.

The thing is, I really DO want her to stay focused on silly bills because she and her Tea Party agenda are a danger to the state. She admits she legislates either on a whim (her resolutions) or based on strict Tea Party ideology (she told the ProJo her guiding philosophy is "cut, cut, cut").

She has introduced a bill to simply wipe out the state's $500 minimum franchise fee on businesses, with no effort to offset the lose of revenue to a state with a bottomless deficit. Contrast that with a more responsible approach by Rep. Donna Walsh who's "Small Business Tax Relief Act" has already won praise in the national financial media.

Yes, Rep. Costa should stick to things she likes and things that won't hurt the state and leave the real work to the grown-ups.
