Things To Do in Charlestown - September 8 through 14

CHS Museum Under Construction
Summer is winding down and, as the folks at The Cove said last night, it's as if a switch has been flipped.

Our Things To Do articles will probably be reflecting the slower pace of the seasons to come but we will still work to uncover some suggestions for you.

  • On Thursday Rhode Island Public Radio News Director Catherine Welch is moderating a forum on The Future of Offshore Wind Energy in RI. Speakers will be Former Rhode Island Governor Donald Carcieri; Jonathan Stone, Executive Director, Save The Bay; Grover Fugate, Executive Director, Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council; Jeffrey Grybowski, CAO and Senior Vice President for Strategy and External Affairs, Deepwater Wind; Doug Hales, Assistant Professor, College of Business Administration, URI; Jennifer McCann, Director of Extension Programs, Rhode Island Sea Grant College Program, URI. It will be held at URI's Lippitt Hall, 5 Lippitt Rd., Kingston, RI 02881. Besides promising to be extremely imformative, it's free.
  • This Friday will see the last Charlestown Farmers' Market of the season at the Cross Mills Public Library from 9 AM until noon. Make some time to come out and support your local farmers and visit the Charlestown Historical Society museum under construction.
  • Speaking of the museum, on Friday the Charlestown Historical Society will be holding their annual fundraiser, A Night at the Gallery, at the Charlestown Gallery starting at 5:30 PM. In addition to the silent auction and live auction will be held at 7 PM. Ticket information is available here. As I write only a few tickets are remaining. Update: as of Thursday afternoon tickets are sold out! Sorry. Proceeds will go toward completion of the museum construction.
  • On Sunday from 1 to 3 PM you can join an autumn walk at the Kettle Pond Visitor Center (50 Bend Road). Astronomical fall is just around the corner on September 21. But in nature it's the coming of winter that's critical. Join us for a leisurely walk on the trails at Kettle Pond as we observe the natural world as the coldest season approaches.
At Theatre By the Sea, Alfred Hitchcock's 39 Steps will run from September 8 through 18.

As usual, links are provided in the this article and we have more information and more events in our Events Calendar.
