Signs of summer: The Hitching Post reopens

You know summer can't be far off when the sign in front of The Hitching Post changes from "Closed to May" to "Opening May __." This year, the happy day falls on Friday, May 4.

By Linda Felaco

The Hitching Post could have the best clam cakes in the world (though they call them clam fritters, a vile Connecticutism). They could also have fabulous fried scallops, as Tom Ferrio has reported. But I will never know, because when I'm at the Hitching Post, I'm there for one thing and one thing only: their lobster roll to end all lobster rolls. Rather than attempt to describe their glory with mere words, I offer you this photo. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. Though it's nowhere near as tasty as the real thing.

You can read reviews here, here, and here.

If you're not already a regular, you will be once you go there. If you are a regular, you know it's a rite of the season. At 5402 Post Road at Wildflower Lane. If you're westbound, take the turnaround exit at Wildflower Lane. Bring your appetite and some cash, as they do not take credit cards or checks. You can also bring your dog along if you plan to sit in their pleasant and well-manicured garden area.

Buon appetito!
