Animal Spotlight: Fur Seal Pups
Avila and Kivli
In April, the two female Northern fur seal pups that
were deemed non-releasable traveled from California to their forever
home at Mystic Aquarium.
Once hunted for their fur, Northern fur seals are now protected under
the Marine Mammal Protection Act. In 2008, they were classified as
Vulnerable by the IUCN, meaning they're "considered to be facing
a high risk of extinction in the wild." That's why providing a
home for Avila and Kivli is critical and allows us to share the
importance of protecting our ocean planet for the well-being of all
marine animals.

of all pesticides used and ensure that the required precautions and
applications methods are followed.
