Things To Do in Charlestown - July 27 through August 2

Go to a concert! Or two!

See a free movie! Or three!

And get rid of hazardous waste!

Read on for our recommendations for the next week.

  • On Thursday, July 28, at 6:30pm the Cross' Mills Public Library will present a free showing of Gulliver's Travels (with Jack Black)
  • On Friday, July 29, at 7 pm the Cross' Mills Public Library will feature Lisa Schmitz and Friends, playing bluegrass, Irish, folk and blues. This is part of the library's free Summer Concert Series.
  • Also on Friday, at 8 pm, we have the first of the free outdoor movies in Ninigret Park, showing Shrek Forever After. If you plan ahead by calling 364-1222 you can also camp out in the park.
  • On Saturday from 8 am until 1 pm you can drop off hazardous waste at the Eco Depot at the State Salt Barn in Cross' Mills. It's best to make a reservation to reduce your wait.
  • On Sunday, July 24, the incredibly popular Ninigret Summer Concert Series continues with The Pegheads, a Bluegrass Band, starting at 5:30 pm. This performance is sponsored by Ocean House Marina.
  • On Tuesday, August 2, the Kettle Pond Visitor Center (50 Bend Road), will be showing the Disney classic movie The Rescuers Down Under at 7 pm. It's free and snacks and drinks are provided.
  • The Tony® award-winning musical Hairspray continues at Theatre By the Sea. Marylou Butler provides a review here. She also attended rehearsals and wrote interesting articles here, here, and here.
  • Those visiting town will appreciate hearing that we have these Farmers' Markets scheduled: Friday from 9 am until noon at the Cross' Mills Public Library and Saturday from 9 am until 1 pm at the Cross Mills Farmers' Market property across from the fire station under construction.

As usual, links are provided in the this article and we have more information and more events in our Events Calendar.
