General Assembly skipped out on its duty to protect Rhode Islanders’ health

Planned Parenthood calls for action
Craig R. O’Connor Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island
Last week, the Rhode Island General Assembly decided to call it quits.
As we face the gravest assault on reproductive rights in recent memory, the Democratic leadership of the General Assembly did nothing to protect Rhode Islanders from Trump and his Republican allies’ attacks on our health care and reproductive freedom.
This is unacceptable.

Did the leadership of the Assembly hold a vote on the Reproductive Health Care Actwhich would protect the right to abortion no matter what happens at the national level?
No.
Did they pass legislation to protect affordable access to contraception?
No.
Did they at least put into RI law the most popular parts of the Affordable Care Act, such as protections preventing insurance companies from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions?
No.
Send a message to House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, House Majority Leader Joseph Shekarchi, Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and Senate Majority Leader Michael McCaffrey.
Let them know you are disappointed in their lack of leadership
Tell them you expect them to pass the Reproductive Health Care Act, access to affordable contraception, and basic consumer health insurance protections in 2018.
We deserve more from the elected leaders of Rhode Island.
