What's Happening in Charlestown - through June 26

at the Charlestown Farmers' Market - 2011
With the opening of the Charlestown Land Trust Farmers' Market and the Big Apple Circus we can safely say that summer activities are in full swing!

There are so many activities scheduled for Saturday June 23 that we wrote a separate article for that day.

We also wrote a "teaser article" about the Charlestown Farmers' Market opening.

This article gives you additional suggestions for the next week.

Bats!
On Wednesday, June 20, the Kettle Pond Visitor Center (50 Bend Road) is hosting Bats! with Dr. Peter August, a professor in the URI Dept. of Natural Resources. He will tell us everything we ever wanted to know about these mysterious creatures of the night, including the latest updates on the impacts of white-nose syndrome. This is sponsored by the Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island.

Help your wildlife refuges
Speaking of the Friends of the National Wildlife Refuges of Rhode Island, they are holding a fundraiser on Friday, June 22, at 6 pm at the Westerly Yacht Club (1 Watch Hill Road). Charlestown Wine and Spirits is generously helping out with craft beer and wine tasting.  There will also be hors d'oeuvres, silent auctions, photography for sale and and an all around great time. Tickets are $25 at Charlestown Wine and Spirits, Kettle Pond Visitor Center or by calling 364-8902.

Watch boat racing
On Thursday, June 21, you can watch the preliminary event in the America's Cup trials, the South County 12 Meter Regatta, from the Narragansett shoreline. Information here and a detailed schedule here.

Summer concert at the library
On Friday, June 22, at 7 pm you can attend one of the free summer concerts at the Cross Mills Public Library with Paul Geremia, acoustic blues recording artist.

Town Council meeting
Next Monday's Town Council continuation meeting (7 pm at the Town Hall) promises to be ... interesting, with several important items on the agenda: the expenditure for the YMCA land, zoning ordinance 349 and consideration of proposed Town Charter changes.

Family movie night
On Tuesday, June 26, the Kettle Pond Visitor's Center is holding a family movie night starting at 7 pm. The movie title has not been announced but this movie night series shows family-friendly wildlife-based movies.

Run away to the circus!

The Big Apple Circus will be performing in Ninigret Park June 23 through July with 2 shows daily, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

As always more details for all of the events mentioned above can also be found in our calendar.
