Parks and Recreation Fall Excitement

Fall Fun Fest 2015, Basketball and Mug Magic!

Fall Fun Fest 2015

On October 24 from 6 to 8 pm in Ninigret Park, children can go from car trunk to car trunk and collect treats. This event was a great hit last year. Children collect their treats while walking on a path flanked by carved pumpkins. You can contribute in several ways:

  1. Decorate your car for the Trunk or Treat and hand out goodies at the park - you MUST pre-register at the Parks and Recreation website or at the office in Town Hall. Get some decorating ideas here, here or here
  2. Candy donations for this event are being accepted and can be dropped off at the Parks and Recreation Office.
  3. Please donate a carved pumpkin for this event. Pumpkins can be dropped off at Ninigret Park on Friday, October 23rd from 5 to 8 pm (earlier is better) and will not be returned.
There will also be children’s activities including games and a Halloween themed movie on the large outdoor screen.

Hunter Safety Course

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) will present a Hunter Safety Course on November 7th and 8th from 8:00am to 4:00pm at the Charlestown Senior Community Center. The class is free, but space is limited. Register with RIDEM, email scott.travers@dem.ri.gov.

Youth Basketball Clinic

Parks and Rec is holding preseason Youth Basketball training for boys and girls ages 6 through 12. The fundamentals of basketball will be taught, along with lay-ups, passing, mechanics of the shot, ball handling and more. Emphasis will be placed on learning proper techniques while having fun. The class will be coached by Wayne Carroll, an RI-certified and NYSCA-certified coach. The clinic for girls will be on October 9, and for boys on October 16 at the Charlestown Elementary School from 6 to 8 pm. The cost is $5, payable when you arrive for the clinic. Pre-registration for the upcoming season will be available to all attendees of the clinic.

Youth Basketball

Youth Basketball registration begins on October 19th at 9 am online or at the Parks and Rec office. Practices and games will be held at the Charlestown Elementary School Gym. The cost is $45 and for families it’s $5 less per child.
