Latest Charlestown Tax Rate Update and Important Dates

I'm supposed to be the numbers geek here but I don't seem to be keeping up. Charlestown published the official budget review notice in the newspapers this week with a new proposed tax rate of $9.04 per $1000 valuation. This is a dime higher than the last $8.95 rate that I heard in late March.

Somehow that increase slipped past me at the recent town meetings. For the average house in Charlestown that will be one less night out for dinner at The CoveHungry Haven, or The Gentleman Farmer with some beer (BYOB at Hungry Haven!). For the average CCA leader it will be one less night out at Shelter Harbor Inn with a nice bottle of wine. But they're not getting the tax increase that most owners of most lower-valued homes are seeing anyway so they'll be ok.

Our magic tax bill calculator has been updated with the new rate. You can look up your property valuation here, to use in the calculator.

Here are two important dates to remember:
  • May 4 - public hearing on the budget at the Town Hall
  • June 6 - Voting day for the budget and the bond authorization for the new proposed beach facilities

And last, but not least, you can see all of our recent articles on Charlestown property tax here.
