How can we miss you when you won’t go away?

Somebody needs to tell Frank Maher that he’s not a state senator anymore

What do you suppose he’s thinking?

Losing by a ten point margin wasn’t enough to make an impression on former state Senator Frank Maher (R-District 34 which includes half of Charlestown) who is still acting as if he was still senator.

Appearing recently on the dais for the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks veterans’ ceremony, Maher was identified as State Senator even though he lost in November to Cathie Cool Rumsey by 1,341 votes.

In the Elks photo supplied to the Coventry Patch, Maher is shown looking like something very unpleasant had just happened. Fill in your own caption.

Maher was also seen harrumphing along to a recent anti-gun control rally at the State House, again acting as if he was an elected official.

Maher’s main claim to fame during his two terms as a state senator was winning the passage of a bill that drastically reduces the penalties faced by criminals who use a crossbow in the commission of a felony.

Perhaps he was confused and thought that crossbows, his apparent weapon of choice, would be covered in the various gun control measures currently being considered by the General Assembly.

Or maybe he’s just getting himself positioned for a rematch with Cathie Rumsey in 2014.

While we’re waiting, here’s a little song in honor of former State Senator Frank Maher, Dan Hicks’s cover of a favorite Homer and Jethro classic:
