What began as a spark of grassroots resistance to sweeping executive orders, DOGE firings, and cruel immigration tactics has become a rising force for democratic action and community empowerment. In a region often dismissed as “too quiet, too rural, too red,” we proudly unveil our new name: South County Rising: Resisting Autocracy. Reforming Democracy.

Who are we?

We are an inclusive community of progressive voices that champion liberty and fight to preserve democracy for all.

We are passionate about transparency and facts. We are not hiding behind masks, strong-arming anyone for support, or infringing upon the rule of law. We are not funded by big corporations or any outside money. We are people-powered and empowering people to challenge extremism and get us back on track as an inclusive community and country.

We are nonpartisan and volunteer-led, fueled by everyday residents who care deeply about the future of our country and our communities. Our team of local activists is the heart of the growing national resistance movement; our local neighbors and friends provide the energy for growth to make a difference.

Why South County?

South County is more than a geographical location; it is our unifying identity. From North Kingstown to Block Island, from Westerly to Exeter, our voices rise to call for civic engagement, reform, and renewal.

Our new logo symbolizes our basic values:

1. Purple symbolizes unity beyond partisan lines — we are neither red nor blue, but a coalition of conscience.
2. The Torch represents our unwavering determination to keep the flame of liberty burning brightly.
3. The Stars honor the nine towns of South County — each one vital to our collective future.

“We began as South County Resistance, born out of urgency and love for the country,” said Etta Zasloff, a group spokesperson. “Now, with broader vision and deeper roots, we rise with purpose and resolve.”

South County Rising is not just a name. It’s a call to action for those who believe living in a democracy is better than tyranny and are willing to do the work democracy requires. While protesting is important, using your voice for local action that affects all of us is also critical. A lifetime appointment to the RI judicial bench is pending Gov. McKee's selection.
