Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Maddie Cardoza (they/she) hails from Providence RI. Their music falls somewhere between dreampop and indie folk, love letters to existence, nature and the bonds of community. Along with their solo endeavors, they sing and play piano, sax and clarinet and a founding member of the band Field of Embers.
She is also an inspiring novelist currently drafting a
trilogy, where some of the emotion of the characters can be heard in her songs.
Please come and hear Maddie and her amazing songs.
Mary Pierce
Mary grew up in a musical household with her 3 sisters who
shared their love of music. Her mother, a folk singer/guitarist with a local
community group, introduced Mary to songs of Joan Baez and Judy Collins, among
others.
Her writing began after a trip to Ireland –she says “I came
back and was writing Folk music with an Irish lilt, it just came to me”. Her
deep appreciation for Folk music, her inspiration of the beauty of nature and
love of the human spirit can be heard and felt throughout her songs. As songs
were completed she would share them with her sister, Margi, in her old room
when she came back for visits and it was the beginning of a creative ,
collaborative and spiritual sister journey.
Mary has had the honor of performing and recording her songs
on her first album with her sister Margi, Gabriel Donohue, David Shenton, Elias
Cardoso and performs regularly in RI, CT and ME. Mary is also the Founder and
Host of the At the River Songwriters Series that now has 2 locations
(Saunderstown and Charlestown). We hope to see you on July 11th at the
Bend/Wilcox Tavern at 7pm for a great show! Eventbrite Women Folk Events
Margi Gianquinto Margi (Mary’s youngest sister)
is an accomplished singer, pianist, music educator, and
choir director with a diverse musical background. Her love of harmony and her
multiple talents are artfully blended into each of her projects across many
genres. Margi divides her time between teaching, performing, and residencies
with her jazz band in the Connecticut and NYC area. She has curated and
presented shows at Birdland and Lincoln Center and has built a reputation for
authenticity and excellence in the traditional jazz scene.
Margi graduated from Providence College with a degree in
music (classical piano/choral) and humanities. Prior to entering the jazz
world, she worked as a professional alto in several NYC-based choirs and was
active in the Brooklyn folk scene. She closely collaborated on Miles Away,
Mary’s first album of original folk songs, with arrangements and performances
on piano, guitar, and harmonic vocals. Since that time, Margi and Mary have
performed regularly in the New England area. As their musical collaboration continues
to organically evolve, they feel joy and gratitude each time they step on the
stage together. See you on July 11th!
